I am using my eMac and have downloaded some programs that end in .exe and when I try to open them the following message pops up:

There is now default application specified to open the document

I am a new Mac user and have no idea what to do. Any help will be appreciated.

Have a great day,
Micha

Hi micha,

Files or applications ending in .exe are Microsoft Windows applications, and will not run on your Mac. The only way to run them would be to use Microsoft Virtual PC (info at http://www.apple.com/macosx/applications/virtualpc/), which emulates Windows on your Mac, but this is a fairly expensive program and only runs simple applications like Word, rather than games etc. On the other hand, for most Windows programs there is a Mac equivalent somewhere, so if you are looking for something specific, let me know and i'll try and help.

If you want to find places to download free or shareware Mac programs, try these out:

All program types
www.macupdate.com
www.versiontarcker.com

Games and game demos
www.macgamefiles.com

Cheers,

Owen

No problem,

I'll close the support ticket now, but you can still reply and i'll get the message, it just takes it out of my 'active' list.

Thanks for using macosx.com tech support, and do come back if you have any other mac-related problems.

Owen
