Dear Sir
i have installed openoffice on my mac with X11. it was working just fine until I went to "preferences" in X11 and enabled the full screen mode, as I wanted to project a powerpoint presentation without the tool bar appearing on the screen. Since then it has stopped working. I have deleted both X11 and openoffice, then downloaded them again and installed them but I still can't open openoffice although it shows in my Finder.
can you help ?
regards
Christophe

The only "downloadable" X11 versions I know of were for 10.3 and 10.2. Is it possible you have installed the wrong X11? Which OS version do you have?

Or, try opening X11 by itself first, and then OO.

I downloaded X11 1.0 - XFree86 4.3.0
my os version is 10.3.9
i have tried to open X11 first then OO
OO actually shows in my Finder, if i click on a document it'll try to open in OO but won't in the end.

OK, when I got home I fired up 10.3.8 on a backup hard drive. Then installed Open Office 2.3. Then tried to run it. It crashed. I think you're going to have to install an older version of OO to match the older X11.

I don't think I can help any more than this. Would you like me to return you to the rest of the techs?

Hello Christophe

I believe you can find older versions of Open Office at www.openoffice.org

If you want to get an up to date X11 you should probably be looking here
http://trac.macosforge.org/projects/.../wiki/X112.1.4 as Apple have now (as of 10.5) decided to this version

Alternatively why not check out the excellent NeoOffice (a special Mac native version of OO.o) here http://www.neooffice.org/neojava/en/index.php

Hi
thks for the info. As for Neoffice i have it installed, the J/1.1 version but switched and started using OO because it was SOOO slow. I have found OO much quicker. Is there a newer Neooffice that is faster to run ?
as for an up to date version of X11, will it work with my OS ? which is 10.3.9 ?
thks
christophe

Hello Christophe

Neo Office is a lot faster than the old Java based v1 and you should take a look at it again. Current version is 2.2.2 patch 11

If you have 10.3 you need to use X11 1.0 - if the version you have is not playing ball try going here and following the instructions again
http://porting.openoffice.org/mac/fa...lling/X11.html

or get the X11 1.0 here http://www.apple.com/support/downloa...formacosx.html

I hope that helps

Hello
I downloaded Neooffice 2.2.2 and will try it out in the next few days. As I opened a document it did seem faster than my other version. So for now let's close the ticket. If I find it too slow, or rather slower than the OO I ll ask macosx.com again.
thks a lot for your input
