Hi,

I am currently using both System Optimizer X and MacJanitor on my G5 with Tiger.

Am I wasting my time using both these (are they both doing the same job?) and am

I creating a conflict. If so which one should I use.

Many thanks,

Dom.

Howdy!

The two programs are redundant. I'd just use System Optimizer X (Does the same thing as Cocktail, OnyX, etc.) from time to time for best system performance.

The word Optimiser in the title is a bit misleading as it used to mean "Defragging" in Norton Utilities (don't need Norton anymore). It just runs updating prebinding procedures and cleans cashes on a system level with a command rather than on the usual schedule.

Mac Janitor is specifically for those who turn their computers off every night, thereby not allowing the prebinding procedures to operate.

Let me know if that answers your question.

Thank you for your prompt response and apologies for my tardy one.

I always switch my computer off at night, do I still need MacJanitor or will

System Optimizer X do the same job when I run it?

What are 'prebindings' ?

Thanks for your assistance in this.

Regards,

Dominic.

Dominic, review my previous post. I give you advice there.

Prebindings: http://macosx.com/forums/showthread.php?p=64737
There's more advise on this page to dump even System Optimizer X and go with XOptimize. It really just comes down to your personal preference.

Long and short: You only need one of the programs to do what you want it to do. Pick one and go with it.

Thanks for your help. I'll just stick with SOX for now.

I'm new to this game, so your advice is much appreciated.

Dom.
