I assume that you are talking about games that have accelerated 3D graphics. Really, the iMac was made with gamers in mind. The thing to remember here is, what KIND of games does your friend like? Shooters? Strategy? Flight Simulator? Here are my choices.

Tomb Raider II: Excellent graphics, great story line. There is somewhat of a learning curve involved in getting the hand-eye thing down, but not that bad. This is something of a shoot em up, but has many engrossing puzzles.

Myth both I and II: Again, excellent graphics, steep learning curve. I got frustrated with the learning curve and stopped playing. But there are many addicts out there who live and breath this game.

Unreal: I have only seen demos of this, but it is probably the ultimate 3D game out there right now. Both a shooter and strategy type game.

Non 3D games:

Diablo: God, am I hooked on this game. It may not be 3D, but you would swear it was. A definate for the Dungeon and Dragons crowd. With good internet play.

Starcraft, and the earlier Warcraft: Classic warfare games with heavy strategy.

Heros of Might and Magic I & II: Older game, hard to find, but will give the fantasy role player hours of fun.

Riven and Myst: For the thinking man (woman). Slow but engrossing puzzle solving.
