I am the LAN geek where I work (SC Baptist Convention), and am trying to help my Minister of Music (my other boss - I'm the pianist) with an Entourage problem, after their Exchange server crash and complete rebuild.
Dangerous turf, I know...a couple of guys do LAN work at the church that also have way too much other 'stuff' to do. Anyway...
After their Exchange server crash, my Min. of Music can't receive or send outside email through his Entourage. No error messages - just doesn't happen!
MacMail works halfway but has issues of its own, e.g., contacts, etc. Virtual PC works halfway...but such a time consuming hassle plus the same 'contacts' issues!
I've researched and seen lots of talk of these two (Entourage from OS X 10.3.9 and Exchange 5.5) not playing together at all, i.e. webdav, blah, blah.
But, this combo was working before, believe it or not!! Took some address book import work, etc, but it finally was working great!
Could this be an issue of an Exchange Service pack they forgot to reload after the Exchange Server rebuild? Thanks in advance, obi wan kinobe! cathy

Hello,
The Mac mail clients don't speak to Exchange in the same way as PC clients. They don't use the native exchange protocols called MAPI,but instead use IMAP and other protocols.
Can you make sure the Exchange system has IMAP enabled. I believe it should also have Outlook Web Access enabled, as this provides the WebDav protocols also needed.
Neither of these will be on by default, which is probably why Entourage isn't working.
Please let me know if this helps at all, or get back to me and we can look at other solutions.

Marcus,
Thank you MUCH for this suggestion. Sounds like a winner to me. I'm passing it along to the LAN guys at the church. I SO hope they can get to this quickly!
Thanks again - hopefully I can get back with you soon.

Hi Cathy,
I hope that does fix the problem! If not, let me know and we can dig a bit deeper and try and get it up and running some other way
Cheers

Hi again Marcus,
One of the church tech guys says IMAC and OWA are already enabled. Further suggestions?
Thanks.

Hi,
Which version of Entourage is he using? The version of Office that it came with is fine.

I believe his Entourage is 11.0.0. It's whatever came with his OS X 10.3.9.
If I remember right there was no Outlook available for this particular Mac OS/Exchange 5.5 combo. But maybe I'm off base on that....

Hi,
Entourage only comes with the Microsoft Office suite, not with OS X itself.
I'm asking because a lot of the documentation suggests that Entourage only works with Exchange 2000 with service packs, so I want to check your version is compatible with 5.5
You're right about there being no Outlook - the last one was Outlook 2001 I believe, which only runs under OS9.
Back to the problem - when sending mail, does it stay in the outbound queue, or does it just disappear?

Marcus,
I'm waiting to hear back from the user on the answer to your last question. I assume you're asking about either or both queue(s): Outgoing on the desktop and/or outbound on the server.
I'll let you know when I hear something.
