Is there any known failure of SMB networking on os 10.4.2 in regards to InDesign? I cannot open a document within InDesign using SMB. "A serious error occurs within InDesign." Everything is updated to latest versions. os10.4 & os 10.4.1 did not create this problem. AFP works fine. I cannot add afp to server ion question.
Any help is greatly apperciated.

Hi John,

This is not a solution to your problem as such. IAs well as MacOSX.com, I also contribute on the Quark forum and various others – all of them riddled with people complaining that files are corrupting as they try to open or save files over a network.

If you can access the files over your SMB network, then you would be far safer copying the file to your local hard drive, working on it, saving it and then copying back the newly amended file to its original place on the network, replacing the old file if necessary.

Apart from anything else, if you do have problems with the file corrupting, you still have the original by way of a backup.

Hope that helps, but as this is not the solution you are looking for, I will post this back into the Open Pool for others to contribute to as well.

Howdy!

Here's adobe's support doc on InDesign CS (really CS2) and SMB. Might be applicable to your situation:
http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/331822.html

It is a known failure and adobe is working with apple to resolve. AFP is a known solution as well as NFS.

Let me know if this helps.
