I have previously used Toast with my HP cd writer 8200 but since I upgraded to OS 10.2.8 I have needed to find a new program. Even though HP doesn't say it's compatable with mac, with os 9 the computer with toast picked it up. When I had both operating systems toast would freeze while burning. So I need to find a burning program for mac os 10 and compatable with the HP cd writer 8200.
Thank you

Patchburn allows you to create a patched driver for most burners. Here's a link to get that software. Use that, then you will be able to use any burning software that is supported by your 10.2 OS X
http://www.patchburn.de/index.html
You could still use Toast, but you can't use newer versions, which require at least a G4 processor. You would want to find version 6, I think.
Here's another burning app. Called Burnz

You can search at versiontracker.com for other CD burning apps, but most require 10.3 or newer.
Your old burner will remain quite slow, using USB. I would recommend

I tried patchburn but the had no HP burners on the list within the program. I actually do have the 10.3 cds, they arn't installing so I am dealing with the company who sold them to me. Once that is working I can try the 10.3 version of patchburn, but not sure if it will have the HP burner on there as well.
The version of toast I have is for OS 9, were you saying that the newer versons are only for G4?
I'm not sure what happened to this line, it seemed to have cut off and didn't say what you would recomment:
"Your old burner will remain quite slow, using USB. I would recommend ... "

I would recommend ... that you replace the old burner with one using FireWire, as the burning process (and the burner itself) will be much faster.
If you look at Patchburn again, you will see that you create the custom burner profile for the burner that you have, and you are not restricted to one that's on the list. I know the newer versions of patchburn do this. Keep in mind that not every burner is supported, and you might not be lucky with your setup.
Toast version 7 and later require a G4 processor.

I would love a faster burner but right now I am trying to use the burner and scanner I have with OS 10. The 2 devices that I haven't been able to use with OS 10. I have only asked this site for advice for the burner so far. (Umax Astra 2200)
I don't think the version of patchburn for OS 10.2 has the option of creating a custom profile.
So I haven't had any luck yet in getting my burner to work with OS 10.

Might be a good excuse to upgrade to a version of OS X that better supports a wider range of hardware. No guarantees with your old hardware, and an older scanner can be a struggle, but Tiger gives much easier support for a lot of hardware (and your system will seem 'snappier', certainly more stable with a lot of hardware)
Sometimes you have to decide what is realistic, and how that compares with what you want to do. You may not be able to do what you are asking, within the constraints of OS X, and the hardware that you want to use. You should consider some kind of upgrade, either software, or hardware.

I have purchased OS 10.3 (I have a G3 and I have been told that 10.4 would only work with a G4+).
The people I bought the software from made me a CD copy of the dvds because my imac doesn't have dvd drive. But I am having trouble installing 10.3. Each time I do so it goes through to the end of installation of the first disk and tells there were errors and to try again. Results in my OS unrestartable and I lose everything.
So I am trying to get that sorted with them. If that is resolved I hope that will help with my burner and scanner situation. Of course if I could afford it I would upgrade my scanner and burner, well computer for that matter! lol For now I added ram and attempting to upgrade the OS.
