Hello- Since my upgrade from OS 9.2 to OS 10.2, my G4 hangs up at the grey start up screen. I have tried reinstalling the software, but it still hangs at the same time. I would appreciate any suggestions you may have.

Hi and welcome to macosx.com

(A)
Do you have have check if yous system meets the minimum requirements for Jaguar ?
Had you use the standard Jaguar CDs, not Jaguar Cds bundled with a machine different from yours ? For instance, Jaguar Cds bundled with a iMac G4 cannot install Jaguar on a PowerMac G4
Do you have update your G4's firmware ?
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86117
This update must be done while still running 9.2
If you haven't do but should have do, just goole a "firmware trap" and you'll access to plenty of documents describing how
to bypass the problem
For instance:
http://www.macintouch.com/panfirmware.html
However, most of the issues are concerning G3 when upgraded to Panther
Can you boot on the Jaguar Install disc#1 ?

(B)
So, another known issue, is a RAM incompatibility: MacOSx is more sensible to bad quality of RAM. If you have several boards -and if Jaguar was well installed- try to remove a board and see if it boots; well, it will be very slow but it is a test; inverse the boards and check again

Another possible issue is an icompatible external device; so do the boot with only the keyboard and the mouse

I would also:
* reset the PRAM
http://www.cit.cornell.edu/helpdesk/...resetpram.html
* boot on the Jaguar install disk and only launch DiskUtility (File menu ?; do not known Jaguar)

Regards
Philippe
