Problem: Software
Computer Type: Apple
Model: PowerMac 8500/120
RAM: 48meg
RAM Enhancer: Virtual Memory
OS Version: System 7.5.3

Description:
I have had the OS8 on my shelf for about 3 months but am leary of installing it because I'm concerned about compatability if applications in my present system. Most specifically, I use MS Word 5.1a for my word processor and don't want to update it because the new word is a RAM hog.
I do, however, have the newly updated applications as follows adobe pagemaker 6.5, photoshop 4.0. illustrator 7.01, acrobat & dimensions 3.0, Virex 5.8, and filemaker pro 4.0, etc. So what do I need to know before I install OS 8.0? Is there a newer version that I should update immediately and can I get it from you?
Thanks for your help. Bill

Hi Bill,

I haven't heard of anyone having a problem with older versions of word that are related specifically to OS 8. I know the other programs you mentioned will work with the OS as I'm using most of the ones you mentioned.

Norton Utilities needs an update to work with OS 8. If you have version 3.5 you can download the updates from symantec's site. The OS 8.1 upgrade is very worthwhile. You can get that for free from Apple's website or send them around $20 for a bootable 8.1 cd-rom. It's actually a nice upgrade and is more stable than OS 8.. which is much more stable that previous systems.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for using No Wonder.
Todd
