One of our many Macs we have here funs on OS9.
We had a server crash this morning and ever since, this MAc will boot up fine but you can't click on any of the Desktop Folders or Menus. I remember I once solved this by deleting a particular Cache, but that was on a OSX Mac. What can I do?
A thousand Thanks,

-Brett

I tried that, But I ran into the same issue.
Once I got the dialoug box faying "Are you sure you want to rebuild the desktop" I couldn't click on yes or cancel. My mouse is moving fine. But other then that nothing is working.

Boot holding the Shift key down to disable Extensions and see if you can use the mouse.

If you can, trash these Preferences files;

Finder Preferences
Macos Preferences
System Preferences

Located in the System Folder>Preference folder, then restart.

If you can't do this this way, boot off the OS CD and do it.

Thanks,
I was able to use the mouse to delete those files fine.
Unfortunatly after I restarted, I still had the same issue.

Brett

How were you able to use the mouse to delete the files. By booting holding the Shift key down? Or off the OS disk?

Brett

Were you just able to delete those files with the mouse, or did you have to start holding the Shift key down first to do it?

I held down the shift key, then I was able to click on all icons. After I deleted the files, I restarted, then was back to frozen Icons and a working mouse.

Ok. An extension is causing the problem.

Disconnect the machine from the network and turn off File Sharing and restart and see if the problem is still there.
