I want an application for Tiger that will let me run OS 9 (not Classic) for all those great games I used to play - Frog Xing, MacDo, Lemmings, etc. They won't run on classic but will run on OS 9.

Thanks - but neither Sheepshaver or the Romgrabber will open. Maybe all of my old games will reappear on Mame or MacMame - now, THOSE I can get to work.

If I can get an older eMac that will run OS 9 can I take some part out of it and put it in my new eMac so that it will run OS9?

Could you have a look here:

I would say that copying the "OS 9 System" from another to your machine than enabling Classic in the SystemPreferences, may be it'll work.

I'm not sure because of permissions on the machine
I never do that because I always install an new OS 9 on the target machine by booting on the official OS 9 CD.
If your machine can boot on suchs CDs, this is another way

Starting Jan 2003, Apple said that their computers would no longer be able to start up in OS 9 . What exactly was added to, or taken away from, their computers made in Dec 2002 that COULD start up in OS 9?

This is locked into the machine firmware. I've no experience in emac, but on iMac G5, this is the case.

On the other hand, a non so stupid considering will be to buy (ebay, ...) an old G3 machine (around 100 $) which can run OS 9 and most times have still OS 9 on their hard drives when sold.

Can I hook up a G3 tower to my eMac, and will this enable me to run OS 9?

I'm not sure if it will work, but to clarify:
eMac has Mac OS X Tiger and has a Display.
The G3 is just the box without display, running OS 9.
If you hook up the G3 to your eMac, it will just use the eMac as a display. The eMac will be turned on, but it isn't its own computer anymore. Its being used as the display for the G3. When you disconnect the two computers, then the eMac will start up normally.
I will re-open this issue,

Ferdinand
