I have an emac 1.25 ghz ppc g4 that is running 10.3.9. I've tried to install both Tiger and Leopard but at the very end of installation I get a notice that it was unsuccessful and that there's probably something with the disc. I've tried different discs and multiple times, but always the same result. any clue?

Hello Skip

thanks for using macosx.com and I will try to advise you

OK are you sure it is referring to the Installer Disk? If you didn't skip it the installer should verify its own media before starting... and having 2 different OS installers both give the same message would indicate that this is not the problem

First check that there is room to do the install (and some leeway) the installer should do this for you but if it is "just going to squeeze in there" it may fail at the end due to a lack of space to do the final "jiggling" and cleanup etc. However far more likely is that there is a problem on the HD you are trying to install onto

Start the Installer Disk (I would suggest Tiger) at least to start with and dont skip the verify install media step (yeah drag I know but even so rule that out) Once past he Language selection get the Disk Utility from the Menu and run the Disk Repair - if it says repairs were needed do it again until it says the disk is OK... even better if there is nothing on the disk of value erase the HDD and then run Repair

Try the install again...

come back and tell me what happens
