In previous incarnations of OS 9 Macs, I've used Outlook Express. All my addresses etc. are archived in it and I'd like to keep using it.
Q: With 10.2 on a G4, there's a different mail programme. Can I install a version of Outlook Express to use with 10.2?
Q: If that's not possible, how do I transfer all my address book data across to the system mail software?

Hi and Welcome to MacOSX.com!
Yes, you can install Outlook Express for MacOS 9 on an Apple that runs 10.2. Go to this link:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en
Scroll down to "Files in this Download" and download the top one, which is "OutlookExpress506ENU.bin". Then, once downloaded, double click it in the desktop. StuffIt Expander will open and will extract the file. Then two more files will appear. Once with a hard disk icon, and one that is only white. Double click the white icon. Then drag the Outlook Express Folder to your Applications folder. Then, when you open Outlook Express, Mac OS 9 Classic will start up, that means you are running MacOS 9 in MacOSX. Outlook Express will open normally, type in all the details, then go to the File Menu and click Import. Then you can Import all your old things.
Hope you understand this,

Roger,
Outlook Express will only run in MacOS9, not in OS X.
About the other question, no, you cant update Safari alone. Every MacOS (Jaguar, Panther, Tiger) comes with updates for Safari, Mail etc.
So basically, you can only get a newer version of Safari, if you buy 10.3 or 10.4. I hope that answers your question,

Roger,
You need to, what is called, partition the HD. That means you split your HD in half (or three quaters and one quater, depends on how much you need on each side). So the bigger half will be for Mac OS X 10.2 and the second half which is slightly smaller, is for Mac OS 9.2 since you dont have any files in it. So, youre asking yourself, how do you partition a Hard Drive?? Well, its quite easy:
1. Go to Macintosh HD
2. Click Applications
3. Go down the window and click Utilities.
4. Choose Disk Utlity.
5. On the list on the left, choose the top one, which says something like
37.3 GB FUJITSU MHT2040AT
6. Then click the Partition tab.
7. Under Volume Scheme, choose 2 Partitions
8. You can move the grey line in between the two boxes around,
changing the size of each Partition. The top box is 10.2 and the
bottom box will be for 9.1, so make the bottom one smaller.
9. When you are done, give each box a Name, like 10.2 and 9.1 and click
Partition.
If all this is greyed out, and you cant change anything, then shut down your computer, insert the Install Disk 10.2 that you got with the computer (NOT the 9.1 disc!!!) and then start up the computer. Immediately hold down the "c" key. Then choose quit Installer from the Menu at the bottom and choose Disk Utility. Once, opened, start with point number 5.
Hope this helps and it works,
Ferdinand
