Hi, I'm Dale, and I might be able to help.

You should be able to find the answer to your question in the printed manual that came with the xServe.
If not--
You can't configure as a RAID directly from the installer. But boot to the OS X server installer CD. At the first screen, click on the Installer menu (at the top of the screen) and choose Disk Utility. When this opens, you can then erase the RAID, or setup a new RAID set. You should NOT include the startup disk in the RAID set. You can use the Disk Utility to set up either RAID 0 or RAID 1. RAID 5 can only be setup using a third party utility, AFAIK.
Sorry about the partial answer here! You can setup a RAID, but you should not install OS X Server on that RAID, Apple does not recommend doing that.

#You should be able to find the answer to your question in #the printed manual that came with the xServe.

I tried. They say : "use megaraid utility to create the raid". I'm ok with that. And then : "use diskutil to format the logical drive". My problem is that I can't find how they named the logical drive just created with megaraid ??! And nothing about that in the 2 pages of explanation...

I did not mention that it's a headless Xserve... but there's the command line utility diskutil to do this

Interesting, where could I find this information ?

many thanx
