Chris,
My name is Cheryl and I will be helping you. Does the message about the error give you any other information? Do you still have a system folder installed on the computer? If you do, Go to the chooser and turn on AppleTalk. Then restart the computer, insert the OS 8 cd and then go to the Apple Menu>Control Panels>Startup Disk. Select OS 8 cd. Now go to restart and when your computer has booted up do the installation, Do a clean install and select custom, Mac OS only. You should go through the installation without errors.
Keep me posted on how you do.
Cheryll
