Description:
Just loaded 8.1. Got everything to work but the Fax. When I start up the screen reads "Global fax software could not locate selected fax device. Go to chooser etc."
If I choose global fax, I cannot print without reselecting my printer. If I select printer, I cannot fax without reselecting the Global fax. I never had to do this before. I just printed and/or faxed and didn't have to select anything. Also before (with 7.6) the global fax icon was not even in the chooser.
Also, under the apple menu-selecting global fax gives the Graphing calculator. Selecting the Graphing calculator gives a BOMB.

The fax software perhaps became 'confused' while installing OS 8.1 (did you do a clean install of 8.1, or just over the old OS?). Try removing every bit of the fax software, and reinstall it. To do that, startup with extensions off, move everything 'Global fax' to the trash, reboot, and empty the trash. Shutdown, or restart again, with extensions off (holding down the shift key until the Mac finishes loading), and reinstall fax software. If you want to be really careful, rebuild the desktop between removal and installation.
