I have an epson 1520 connected to a beige G3, OS9.2 by serial port. I recently upgraded my graphite G4 to OS 10.3.x. I have the computers connected via ethernet with the G3 working as a print server using Epson stylus RIP. I was printing by appletalk just fine immediately after the upgrade. I was able to set up the printer through system preferences with no problem. However, after a couple of days something happened and I could no longer print from my G4. I kept getting a printer not responding message. Then I tried to print from the G3 that is connected directly to the 1520... no luck. I reinstalled OS9.2 and the RIP software and can now print from from the G3. I attempted to set up the 1520 again on the G4 through System Preferences>Add a Printer. Unfortunately, it is not recognizing that there is a printer on the network at all. I can mount the G3 to my G4 and vice versa so i know appletalk is on and working.
for now I have been creating PDFs, transfering them to the G3 and then printing them or either opening the PDf on the G3 via file sharing and printing.
It is frustrating because I was capable of printing from my G4, but something happened to prevent me from printing now.
Hi Rebecca,
I took alook at epson's website and there are no supported drivers for a Epson Stylus Color 1520 printer. I have the same problem with a Epson C 8000 and firey rip station and system X not having drivers. I can Print from system 9 but not system X.
What I hve done to get around the problem till I can afford to buy a new color printer is i downsave all my work to system 9 and I drag the work to a system 9 machine and print from there. I'm sure that is not the answer you are looking for but I'm pretty sure that is the best you will be able to do being that your printer is not supported in OS X.
Regards
Eddy

my OSX g4 is networked to an OS9 G3 that I was using as a print server. When I first upgraded, I could print over the network just fine. I added the printer as instructed. Now the printer is dimmed in my printer list and I get a "printer not responding" message. I tried to re-add the printer and it does not show up in my Appletalk printer list in the system prferences.
For now, making PDFs and printing them directly from the OS9 G3 is my only work around.
It seems that Epson is not supporting any of its wide format printers under OSX. Pretty bad business!
