Hi folks,
I'm currently running OSX Panther on a G3 Pismo.
When attempting to to use DVD Player , I am presented with the message , Initialization Error ; -5000
Can I ask if there is a solution to this or perhaps a thread where I might look for a solution ?
Yours Sincerely
Pol McLernon

Hi Pol
Try this
Open this folder;
~/Library/Application Support/
Delete the DVD Player Bookmarks folder.
Creat a new folder with the same name on your Desktop, then drag it to that same location.
Restart and try it.

Thanks for the reply Bob ,
When I opened the folder ~/Library/Application Support/ , there were no folders
I did create one on the desktop and dragged it to the location as suggested , restarted and attempted to launch a DVD .
Same message : There was an initialisation error; -5000
How can we proceed ?
Thanks
Pol

Make sure there is no disc in the drive, then use Disk Utility in your Utility folder to Repair Permissions, then try.

Did a DVD ever play on this machine?
An alternative to play DVD's is VLC;

Hi Bob , just got vlc sorted , playing DVDs ; my machine has played DVDs in the past but hasn't been used for that purpose in over six months .
The error message has no definite origin to my mind .
Many Thanks for helping and suggesting an alternative
All the best
