Knowledge Level: Intermediate

Problem: Software
Computer Type: Apple
Model: 6100/60AV
RAM: 48meg
RAM Enhancer: Virtual Memory
OS Version: MacOS 8.1

Description:
Using Eudora Pro, I get "Error while checking mail... involving Domain Name System. 701;An error occurred while initializing Open Transport Internet Services. {37:1145}" So I try to open TCP/IP, and I get a message that TCP/IP can't be opened because "OTATalkClientLib" can't be found. OTAT doesn't seem to exist; I've looked for it when everything is working. This happened before; I solved it by installing a new system. Now it is happening again in the new system. Sometimes all I have to do is check for mail again, and it works, but I still can't open TCP/IP.

Another intermittent problem: Netscape crashes on opening. CrashGuard fixes it, and it works fine except that I cannot follow any links embedded in a web page. I have to do a bookmark for them, then click the bookmark. I don't know if these intermittent problems are related. Been on Macs since '87; still can't keep it running.

Hi Daru and welcome to No Wonder!

OTATalkClientLib is not a specfic file - it is part of one of the Open Transport files - the only way to fix it is to reinstall Open Transport.

Try disabling CrashGuard and see if it helps, also allocate more memory to Netscape.
