KNOWLEDGE LEVEL: I'm New!

PROBLEM: Combination
COMPUTER TYPE: Gateway
MODEL: G6333 P2
RAM: 64meg
OS VERSION: Windows 98
SERVICE PACK:

DESCRIPTION:

I am recieving many `out of memory` errors/quit one or programs` messages.
Gateway has sent new ram(64),replaced the power supply, and is now sending a new harddrive.I have installed upgraded bio`s,
and new video drivers.
I have nothing running except explorer, systray, and my virus scan(Norton 5.0)running in the background on boot up..My virtual memory setting is set to run at windows default. My proformance tab reads 94% on boot up.I have nothing in my start up folder. The percentage drops extremely rapidly downto the 70% level
In my System Configuration Utility I have Selective Startup is checked.I have
Process Config.sys file and Process Autoexect.bat file unchecked.
The out of memory error says quit one or more but there is usually only one progrAM
and then I am back at my desktop.I cannot download and install most of the time because of these errors.Heaven help my kids when they have to use Word or Works for a project..Any ideas?....Hard Drive?......Motherboard?.....user error..
I have reformatted 3 times lately....the last time was a week ago.My hard drive is an 8.4 and I only have 1.3 installed...
Any and all ideas would be greatly appreciated..Gateway has been very cooperatived on this issue.I want to thank you for your time.Sincerely,Harry
Ps.thanks again

hi

I'd suggest you remove Nortons virus scan and see if the problem goes away

if it does, check their ftp site for updates

ftp://ftp.symantec.com//public/engli...tes/iradll.doc
ftp://ftp.symantec.com//public/engli...es/irainst.exe

or check their web site

http://www.symantec.com/nav/index_updates.html

hope this helps
