Hi, as a volunteer here occasionally hopefully I can get some help. I'm using Leopard and Apple Mail, and for about a week now, every time I try to send an email, a message comes up asking for the outgoing server password, which it rejects each time. I've used macosx.com for a number of years, and every so often the error would come up, however entering my password has always fixed it. This is happening on both of my computers setup with this account, however I can send using webmail.macosx.com

Any suggestions to get this fixed? I haven't found a place to setup passwords for my account.

Thanks

I believe this is the famous keychain issue, where it is not saving your Mail passwords because something has changed Mail's "signature." This happened a whole lot back when Leopard came out ... I read thru it all and ended up decided the easiest fix was to get a fresh copy of Mail from my install disk.

Do you use Service Scrubber? That was the culprit then, and though there's been a new release, I think it's still screwing with a few things. When I use it, I zip Mail first, so nothing can be altered.

Pacifist is the utility for getting files out of the install DVD, it's saved my bacon a lot, with all these new permissions issues. Or when I am sick of troubleshooting.

Could this apply in your situation, do you think? I assume you've already tried trashing all related preferences and restarted?

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately however I think the problem is with macosx.com. I have reset preferences and all that, however I didn't try the Pacifier method yet because it happened simultaneously across all of my computers, so I don't believe it to be my machine that is the problem (I will attempt that as a last resort). I am able to send mail using different accounts (a .mac trial for instance), but the server rejects my password with the macosx.com account. Is there somewhere on this website where I can reset or find this information?

Web mail is an entirely different situation, sorry, I didn't get it.

Did you email Scott or lv. message for him on forum? Sounds like the DNS numbers got changed?

Okay I'll do that. Thanks very much for your help, a lot of good information in there.
