Is it possible to repair a damaged Mac PageMaker 7.0 file? It will open, and I can re-save it to a new name, but then it crashes.

Howdy!

Need more info. What OS are you using? OS X?

I recommend first repairing permissions (apps/utilities/disk utility/repair permissions) then make a duplicate of the damaged file (so you don't ruin the original).

If you have InDesign you can try opening the PageMaker file in that program.

Make sure no other programs are running and you don't have any other computer issues before proceeding to try to resave the file.

Is the file on another drive other than your internal hard drive?

Let me know.

Hi Nataniel,
Thanks for your response. We're on the same wavelength – I repaired permissions, tried opening it in InDesign, etc. before I submitted my first question, but nothing worked.
Ultimately, it was a damaged link. I moved all links off of my hard drive, then I linked to a photo I knew was not corrupt upon opening the Document. Now everything's great!
Thanks a million for your time,

You bet! Glad I could help. Sounds like you had a great solution already cooked up.

Good call not allowing the file to automatically link to your images.

And hey, convert all your PageMaker files when you get a chance. InDesign is so much more stable. I used Quark 1.5 years ago but switched and will never look back.

(Closing thread.)
