We have some eMacs that we are using PageMaker on. PageMaker needs Classic. It has got so it will not start up. We don't know if it is Classic or PageMaker.
Also we have an administrators site and managed sites on the machine. PageMaker will start up in the Administrator site but not in the managed sites. We tried making the managed site an administrator but it still will not start. We've reinstalled PageMaker and also made other managed sites What do we need to check now?

Gayle,
So what OS are your computers running? Are you sure they have classic installed? 10.3 and later don't automatically install Classic, I believe. Look in the hard drive on each computer for a folder with a "9" on it.
Not sure what you mean by administrator and managed sites?

We are running 10.3
I am refering to user accounts when I say sites. Classic starts as we start PageMaker but otherwise it is idle. These computer have just developed this problem. We have some that work fine with PageMaker and managed user accounts.

With each new user account you have to reinstall the software. If you use the same software across different user accounts it will only work with the user account for which it was installed. Has to do with the preference and helper files required to run apps.
Have you installed the Pagemaker app for each user individually? You might need to try that to make it work.

Do we need to install os9 in each account then? It really seems to be Classic that is hanging thing up.

If the machines don't have OS 9 installed then you can't run Classic, I don't think.

Have you thought about upgrading your Pagemakers to InDesign? If you are an educational institution you might qualify for a discount.
Adobe acquired Pagemaker several years ago and the app can open Pagemaker files.

We have decided to upgrade to InDesign. Thanks for your help.

No problem!
And take a look at these compatibility details between indesign and pagemaker so you know exactly which features will and won't transfer from your pagemaker docs:

Don't want to send you down a track that might have some cost without some good information.
Let me know if I should close this thread.
