After installing 10.4 (Archive & Install) i downloaded the newest version of Palm Desktop from Palms site and tried to install it for my Handspring Treo 300. however, when ever I try to open any program that it installs i get this message:

"The application "HotSync Manager" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "4<>"

During the installation, it stalled on about the last few files and said that it hadnt installed correctly. Has anyone else experienced this problem, or know of any fixes for it? Thanks!

Hi nmm88,

Do not fear, for there is nothing wrong with your system. The good people at Palm have simple neglected to update Palm Desktop so that it will work with Tiger. Isn't that nice of them? Now many of us are stuck with no way to syncronize our devices. If your palm has Palm OS 4 or higher, you may want to check out "The Missing Sync" for Palm OS, which is rumored to work on Tiger.

Well, as I have been looking around, i've seen that this is not the case and many people have gotten Palm Desktop 4.0 to work on tiger. For example look at this thread here:
http://www.macosx.com/forums/showthr...highlight=Palm
I am having that same sort of problem, unfortunately those instructions didnt seem to work.
When I try to install palm desktop for my Treo 300 on 10.4.1 the installer always hangs on item about 761 out of 770 something. It then tells me the installation was unsuccessful. If I try opening the Hot Sync Manager, or Conduit Manager programs i get the error:

"The application "HotSync Manager" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "4<>"

I have tried all that I can! Please help, I need to sync my Treo and my Mac!

HI nmm88,

You are right that people have now been able to get palm desktop to work with Tiger, but that was not the case when I replied to you almost a month ago.

Just did some research, and found this! http://www.palmone.com/us/support/ma...sk421revb.html

Looks like we are in luck!

I'm sorry I didnt mean to sound accusative, I was just getting a little frustrated! Thank you so much for that information, it worked great (even though it says it only applies to Treo 600 >) I dont know why I couldnt find it, palm doesnt link to that as the latest download for the Palm Desktop. Anyways, it installed fine, and sync'd fine with Palm Desktop.

The next step was getting iSync working. I dont know if you've run into this problem, but for some reason iSync wont install the iSync Palm Conduit into the Palm Hotsync Folder in Library>Application Support>Palm Hotsync unless you change permissions on it first. Just thought I'd share what I learned but then again you probably already know.
I found this info here:
http://discussions.info.apple.com/we...O.11@.68b34e24

So now everything is all working fine.

Thanks again for your help!

No Problem! I think I'll be upgrading to that release now that I know it works with treo's other than the 600!
