Hi there,

I just installed Panther on a friends Snow imac 600 and after using the internet, mail etc. and restarting, the dial up number had changed by itself to a completely different phone number!

I re-entered the number and it reconnected but I'm puzzled as to how this could happen and don't really want it to happen again.

Any response would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hey Macs,
Have you changed the battery on the machine any time soon, We have many of the same machines here at work and we are always changing the batteries on them. To find the battery you need to flip the machine over and open the access door, Then with the monitor pointed away from you the battery will be on the right side of the computer a few inches toward the back, If you have big hands i wish you luck (i cut my hands doing this all the time)... if this is no help at all, please let me know. P.S. radio shack should carry the battery that you will need.

Thank you, John. I'll check the battery, but I realise now that the machine is trying to revert to an old dial up number which I entered in error at the time of Os x installation.

I'll have to find out where to change this number (preferences? ) once and for all.

So, my fault entirely, I suspect!!

Much appreciated!

ok, well you can change the phone number in the system preferences under network as well as in internet connect. I woln't bore you with the detials unless you want me to, but it sounds like you know that part. If that number shows up anywhrere just get rid of it and insert your good number.

Good luck and happy hunting,
feel free to respond that is what im here for
