My Mac is a G3 Beige with system 10.2.8. 500MHz will I encounter problems upgrading to Panther.

Yes. Panther requires built-in USB ports which you do not have on the Beige G3. Panther will not install on it. Jaguar 10.2.8 is the last version of OS X Apple supports for the Beige G3.
A third-party utility called XPostFacto claims to be able to install Panther on Beige G3s despited the Panther limitation. You can download it at
www.versiontracker.com.

I have finally installed XPostFacto 4.4 after restarting first a circle with a slash appeared and then a floppy with a ? mark appears even after several attempts at booting with shift down, or PRAM, to no evail. I have tried installing restoe with C down and I still get?.
Thanks for your help Steve. Any advice?????

I'm afraid not, Alves. I'm not at all familiar with XPostFacto. However, I understand their tech support is excellent, so you might give them a try. Perhpas they would be of greater assistance in helping you get it to work. I know a lot of Mac owners like you who have these older machines speak highly of the product helping them install OS X on older models including the Beige G3s.
Of course if you return to Jaguar you won't need to use XPostFacto, but it's the only way I'm aware of to get Panther running on the Beige G3s.
