Hello,

I have a Lacie D2 250 GB external hard drive connected to my G4 10.3.9 ibook via firewire. I was working on another partition when I got the multilingual grey screen of death. I cold booted the machine. When everything loaded, one of my partitions on my hard drive would not mount. The drive is partitioned into two 100 GB sections and a 50 GB section. One of the 100 GB partitions not only does not mount, but is recognized in the disk utility.

The steps I took to attempt to rectify this problem were:

-Updated the firmware from Lacie
-Ran verify and repair disk utilities through OS X, which were run without error
-Removed the battery, unplugged all the power sources and cables from both the ibook and drive, then reconnected after 15 minutes
-Attempted to mount the drive on another ibook running Tiger (none of the three partitions mounted)
-Tried a different firewire cable

I had most of my data on that partition (which was 90% to capacity). I do have the information backed up, but it's all over the place, and is going to be a pain to reload to either this drive or a new one.

I am going to attempt to mount the drive to another powerbook running Panther soon.

Does anyone have any suggestions why one partition will not mount, while the others will?

Any information would greatly be appreciated. Thanks tons,

Erik

Even if Disk Utility claimed that there were no problems with the partition, there clearly are; I would use DiskWarrior to repair the partition. If it can repair the partition, backup the data and then reformat the entire drive. If DW can't repair it, try using Data Rescue II to get your files back. DRII is just as amazing as DW in these circumstances.

HTH and please let us know what happens. Thanks.
