I am having problems setting up a mail account in OSX 10.3.9. Everytime I try to get new mail or send it tells me that my password is incorrect and requires me to retype. Again the same thing happens. I have deleted and retried but still the same problem. I also use this mail account through webmail which works fine. I contacted my provider and the username and password are correct. I have deleted all entries relating to my mail in the keychain. Anymore ideas that I could try. Is this a bug with the software and are there any upgrades.
Thanks

There is a bug in the software that may be what you're seeing: practically any sort of problem at that point will produce that "wrong password" dialog, even if that's not the real problem. So, for example, if you have the wrong server name, or port, or protocol--all that stuff in the account configuration screen--then you'll probably see this message. You should check all the rest of the account configuration info carefully. You probably have, since you've been working at the problem so long, but now that you know how many different things can cause this one symptom, try checking again.
One common syndrome: if your mail server is very slow, this can happen to you. In those cases, if you "cancel" the prompt, rather than providing a new password, then sometimes it works on the next automated check; try that.
The latest version of Mail is 2.1, and it seems to be much better about all this. I'm not sure, but I don't think it's available for OS X 10.3, though. Basically, if you have Software Update set up to download and install all updates, then you're always running the latest stuff.

Thank you for your help. I have re checked my setting and contacted my provider and confirmed they are all correct. I tried cancelling the prompt but it then only works offline and when I retry the same prompt shows. I think I might just have to update the OS in the future and just continue to use webmail until that time. Thanks again for the advice.
