Knowledge Level: Intermediate
Problem: Combination
Computer Type: Apple
Model: Pmac 8600 & PB2400
RAM: 65+
RAM Enhancer: Ram Doubler 2.x
OS Version: MacOS 8.1

Description:
I have a PB2400 and am trying to dock with a 8600/250 using system 8.1 and a SCSI/Dock adapter. I made one successful connection but now when I start up my 8600 it freezes right off the bat (no smiley face, no frowny face, no nothing but an illuminated screen with a cursor that I can manipulate. It feels like a termination problem but I don't know how to work the termination on a Powerbook. I have changed the SCSI id from 2 to 6 but no change in the results. The PB is connected directly off the 8600 and is the only external device connected. Ideas?

Thanks in advance. You guys are doing a great service for mac users and we appreciate it.

Phil,
I assume both computers are running 8.1, and you have the correct 30-pin cable since you've made a connection. From my experience its the cable. Its not an apple branded cable is it? The apple cables have an extra mechanism that allows the powerbook end to lock into the scsi cable. If you hold in the cable, you'll find your problem disovle (hopefully). Write back if you need additional help or the cable conection isn't the case.
Tom
