Description:
Hi,
The hard drive on my 520c (bought secondhand) occasionally emits a squealing sound whenever it is woken up, either from sleep or from start-up. I take it my HD needs replacing?
Thanks for your help!

It may just need a dab of grease, bad part is, it is a sealed unit that can't be opened. The drive MAY indeed be on the way out, but, it may also work just fine for a long time to come. No way of knowing absolutely until it does go. Safest thing to do is to keep constant backups of all data and let it run until it dies, assuming you have the software to reinstall. Ultimate thing is to replace HD, but may not be necessary.
