I recently became the owner of a G5 Imac running OS X Tiger with built-in Airport Wireless. I also have a Dell PC with a cable internet connection (local ISP). I bought a Linksys-G Wireless Router and connected it to the cable modem on the PC. It seems to be running (Internet light is blinking), but the Imac isn't detecting wireless signal, even in the Assistant setup process. The computers seem to be within a reasonable distance from oneanother. Any help is very welcome as I'm a new Mac user. Thank you.

Does your network show up in the list of available networks? Be sure to turn AirPort off and then back on again to see if it appears. Also open Internet Connect to see if that makes a difference. I have found that my iMac G5 has the worst reception of all my AirPort enabled Macs (2 bars when others in the same room have 4 bars).

The network doesn't show up in the list of available networks. I've tried turning airport off and on, rebooting, and navigating Internet Connect. Any other help to offer? Thanks.

Are you using Interference Robustness in the AirPort menu? How many bars are you registering as far as signal strength for the AirPort Extreme card?

I did turn on the Interference Robustness. I eventually just brought the Mac upstairs to the same room as the PC and was able to connect, but I've now lost the internet connection on the PC. And even with the Mac four feet away from the PC, the signal only had about 5 bars. Any idea why this might be happening?

Cordless phones, microwaves, etc. can cause interference with the reception. As for the PC dropping the signal now, that is strange. Any possibility of other competing wireless routers nearby? How old is your wireless router? They do have a limited life span, capacitors can fail and cause erratic behavior.

No other wireless routers nearby. I bought the linksys router when I my Mac arrived, four days ago. I don't understand what's happening. Thanks for your replies. Any other ideas?

Which model of Linksys G router is it? Are your running the most current firmware on it (visible on the top right of the first page after you login)? Other users have noted similar problems with the WRT54G models. Check the Linksys site http://www.linksys.com/download/firmware.asp?fwid=178
