How do I change a document I scanned onto my Mac from my Epson printer from photo files to pdf. ? This is a word document, not a picture.

Are you hoping that the text of the file will be selectable once it's a PDF. A PDF is otherwise just another type of graphic image. You can use Preview to save as a PDF or you can open the file in the application of your choice and choose Save as PDF from the Print dialog. Only if you used optical character recognition (OCR) software on the scanned image will you end up with a PDF that retains the original text as text.

Thank you for your help. However, I opened Preview and there was no way to select pdf, although I did highlight it in blue. It didn't save it. I don't know how to open it with a file of my choice. I just know how to click on the icon and open it.
Do you have any other suggestions? What am I doing wrong.
thanks,
Mary

I don't exactly remember what commands are available in Panther's version of Preview. Check Save As if not Export in the File menu. If you can't find the ability to save or export as a PDF, you can also go to File > Print and click Save as PDF in the lower left.
