You do have Get Info. But within some applications there is no use for it, so it isn't there. Go to the finder, that is no matter what program you are in click on the desktop, In the far upper right corner you should see a Mac face, or computer icon. Now, move your arrow to the far left top. There is an apple and then the menu starting with File, edit, etc. Go to File and click and hold down the mouse button. the pull down menu should show and there about the fourth line down is Get Info and next to it on the right is command squiggle (that funny looking box with four circles on the corners) and the letter I.
Open your hard drive and click once on a folder. Now hit the apple/command key and the letter I. The Get Info window should come up. There is lots of information in that window and that is where you can change the preferred memory of your programs.
Let me know how you are progressing. Keep my e-mail handy. I can help you as you learn.
