My mum is worried about whether or not when i install the os x software will it lose all of her photo's on iphoto as she cant back tem up on a CD.

Hi Chris,
what exactly do you mean with 'os x software'? are you planning to update your operating system or your iLife suite?

i am currently running 10.2.8 and i am looking to upgrade to 10.4 "tiger"

Then you can select to install Tiger as an upgrade of Jaguar... you won't lose any software or document from your previous system... The first thing I suggest is to remove any third part plugin for Safari, otherwise you will have some problems with safari 2.0... regarding Mail.app, you will find a very detailed explanation about how to import your old mail in the forum section. But you can tell your mum that her photos will be ok...
