TICKET ARCHIVE -> Playing Multi Region Dvd's On Mac 10.4.1

I would like to be able to play multi-region dvd's on my new Powerbook 1.67ghz. I'm currently running 10.4.1
I have downloaded the latest version of VCL but still cannot play them.
The player seems to be able to read the DVD title and can locate the files within the disc; however, on pressing the play button the full-screen view window opens, then immediately closes again. No image from the film is visible in this split second, just a blank, black screen.
Do you think this might be a bug and if so how can I tell?
Perhaps you could advise on another player that might be compatible with 10.4.1? Preferably one which does not require ugrading any firmware on my computer
Or, if you have any other suggestions, they would be most welcome

If VLC won't work. Try Region X. This changes the region your Apple DVD is set to.
