I was at a sports website which allows one to play videos of golf shots and golf holes. But I got a message saying I don't have a certain kind of plug-in which is of MIME type:
application/x-oleobjec
What does this mean and how do I get the plug-in?
Thanks,
Gary Lombardi

Hi,
Safari comes preinstalled with all standard plug-ins. It works with the plug-ins installed with Mac OS X that support Java, QuickTime, and Shockwave Flash. It also works with plug-ins that conform to the Netscape standard plug-in architecture, such as the Macromedia Shockwave Player plug-in (named Shockwave for Director
To learn more about what plug-ins are installed in Safari go to Safari Help and click on Installed plug-ins.
Some sites you go to gives you a download link for the plug-in. If it is not supported by Safari you can try other browsers like Firefox. You can get it here.

Thanks. I learned a little bit, but still don't really know how to get that particular plug-in. I think it's associated with Real Player. Safari is my web browser. The applications I have that play video's are Quicktime and Windows Media, which I downloaded a few weeks ago. Is there a Mac OSX version of Real Player? Is there a free download? Will this contain the plug-in I was looking for: MIME type: application/x-oleobject?
Thanks, Gary Lombardi

Hi and Welcome to macosx.com!
The website you are interested in is requiring a OLE Object, which is a Microsoft Windows technology that will not be available for Apple.

Thanks to Vinko also.
