If you need the answer, and you don't know it, then it's not a stupid question!

Unfortunately, it's not a very _complete_ question. We have to know what kind of file it is to know which plug-in you need; all you've said is "unspecified," which is of course not much help. Where do these clips come from? Can you lead me to one? For example, do you get to them by browsing with a web browser, like Safari or Firefox? If so, then can you provide an URL to a page that has such links?

Taking a wild stab in the dark: the most commonly missing movie format for Macs is the Windows "WMV" format; it's also probably the most common movie format on the web. Sigh! You could start by installing a WMV plug-in. Even if that turns out not to be the format of the particular movie you're trying to view, it'll come up sooner or later, trust me!

There are really two.

The first one to consider would be Flip4Mac. This is your first choice because it not only makes your browser able to view WMVs, but also any other picture- or movie-display program on the system (it's a plugin for the Quicktime video library). You can get it at

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...omponents.mspx

However, that won't work if you have one of the new Intel Macs. Flip4Mac is working on that, but it's not available yet. So if you have an Intel Mac, you'll have to get a stand-alone WMV viewer. When you install this, it will plug itself into your browser, so you can still click browser links and see movies, but it opens a separate window, and not quite as many other ways of launching the movie work. You can get the Windows Media Player at:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...0/default.aspx

Install one or the other of those, and see if your problem goes away. If not, you're still probably better off, but come back here with an URL or sample file and we'll see what we can do.
