Hi, I installed the new update for my 4th generation iPod today to get podcasts. It worked great for a while but now everytime I go to the podcast tab in the main menu, the iPod restarts and sometimes I get podcasts and sometimes I don't. It just keeps restarting itself. Thanks for the help.

Hello Tom,

Thank you for contacting MacOSX.com support. I had the same trouble you are reporting when I upgraded my iPod firmware yesterday.

Try resetting your iPod by pressing and holding the 'Menu' and 'select' buttons simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.

If this doesn't solve your problem, your firmware might be corrupted.

Use the restore utility to restore your iPod back to 'factory' condition. **Please note: this will erase EVERYTHING on your iPod**

Open the firmware update utility and select the 'Restore' option. Then install the new firmware and connect your iPod to iTunes to restore the contents of your iPod.

This is what worked for me yesterday.

If you have further problems, please let me know.

Thanks Ryan,

I appreciate the quick response. I understand you fixed yours yesterday. Did you have to erase everything or just do the quick restart? I have a full 20G. I really don't want to dump everything out. Again, thanks for the help! Good luck with yours.

Hi Tom,

Have you tried a simple reset yet? I did have to completely wipe my drive and reinstall the firmware. I have a 4G 40GB 'pod that's about 3/4 full; it took about 15-20 minutes to reload everything once it was ready to go, but I haven't had any trouble since. The podcasts are there and everything is running smoothly.

Hey Ryan,

yeah, I tried the simple reset to no avail. I was able to offload my 20GB iPod to another drive and when I was done fixing it, I just put the music back on. Thank God it was still in artist and album layout. There wasn't much else I could do. It works fine now and I can say you helped me to understand there was no other way. It got me to thinking about alternative ways to save my iPod.

You guys are great I and have been telling all my mac friends about your site. I will be back. Good luck to you all!
