Description:
Have always had sporadic non-recognition by my Mac of Epson Stylus Color 600. Epson has been no help. Others have told me of problems, too: corrupted files, failed printer drivers, needing special codes, etc. My Epson has been running smoothly lately thanks to a technician downloading the latest driver from the Epson website and checking all my connections and extensions.
However, I installed a PortDoubler so I can use both my Epson and a Seiko Label Printer on the printer port. Now neither works.
A PortDoubler technician talked me through re-install and suggested I replace the device with MacWarehouse. I did. Same problem. It can't be the PortDoubler.
I disconnected the PortDoubler for now. But the printer still isn't recognized, no matter how many times I go into the Chooser. Ditto for the Label Printer.
Help, I'm climbing the wall!
Thank you in advance.

Sounds like maybe your label printer is not compatible, maybe with OS8, the Epson Printer or Port Doubler. I use an Epson Color Stylus Photo and an Apple Laser with PortDoubler. I have no problems. If your tech friend can reinstall the Epson software, see if you can use that ok. If it works fine, reinstall PortDoubler and software and check to see if it still works. If it does you know there's a problem with the label printer. It's possible it's not compatible with the Epson on your system. Epson doesn't seem to be completly compatible with Mac's. And like you said, Epson techs are of no help. I've talk to them several times, getting nowhere.
