On two separate occasions I have encountered problems with what I believe to be Finder.

The First: I was playing a song in iTunes and the song just stopped playing. I used Force Quiet to get out of finder, but it still appeared to be running in the dock. Then, while i tried to get to that song in finder, finder wouldn't respond and would just have the beach ball rotating color thing. I had to try to relaunch that and the bar at the top went transparent and I couldn't access it. I had to open up another program just to try and restart the computer.

The 2nd: I was trying to move my music files from my iBook to another computer in case my had drive was failing me, but went I attempted to do that the files started to transfer but i couldn't notice any difference. So I hit stop so I could do a few at a time but the transfer window wouldn't go away. I couldn't eject that network server, in frustration I attempted to relaunch finder and then I couldn't do anything. I had to hold down the power button just to get back to the computer.

Please Help. :-(

Hello,

Are you able to repeatedly produce these situations, or have they only happened once? Network file transfers can often be slow, depending on the computers on the network and the network speed (routers, hubs, etc).

If you are playing a song in iTunes and it stops, why did you have to Force Quit the Finder? iTunes should work fine no matter what the Finder is doing.

I'd suggest running Software Update (located in the Apple menu - top left of screen) and making sure your Mac OS X is fully upgraded, and that iTunes is fullly upgraded.

Thanks,
Kevin

I just checked my software and it is up to date. And I had to force quite iTunes and then I tried to use finder to get to that song file, but I couldn't click on anything in the finder window, that is why I tired to relaunch finder.

Anyway I tried to transfer only a few music files and the copy window seemed to freeze with 5 secs left. I also tried to Verify Permissions in Disk Utility and that froze with only a little bit left to do, but I was about to get out of that. The copy window, however, still would not go away and I had to relaunch finder again to get rid of it and I had to forcefully shut down the computer again.

Hmm if Disk Utility is freezing, there could be some corrupted files on your computer. You could try booting into the Mac OS X cd that came with your computer, and repair permissions from there.
