This may be a ridiculously silly question. I have audio and vido files that I had downloaded. I would like to remove parts of them (shorten them). What software do you recommend? Would I move work? I don't have a very fast machine so I guess Final Cut might be a bad choice.
Mac Mini 1.25 mhz, 1 gb ram, 7200 rpm 120 gb 3.5" hard drive & Pioneer DVD burner on Primary IDE channel (using a 2.5" to 3.5" IDE adapter of course.......or else I'm really good at soldering......lol)

Perhaps the best choice for audio editing isn't as good for video? In that case please recommend one for each. Just for shortening - something simple. Something a retarded chimpanzee with severe cranial trauma could master in a few minutes....you get the picture.

Forgot to ask if I could use VLC for this? Also I have Audacity but I haven't tried anything much with it yet. Too many programs, not enough time. Of course I have iLife (iMovie) too.

If money is no object, Final Cut Express would do this quite well. It would be pretty speedy on your miniMac. I have a PowerBook 867mhz that I do a lot of video/audio/photo editing on, and it runs without any problems.

VLC would also be capable of doing this with the Streaming/Exporting Wizard. QuickTime Pro would also allow you to do that. QTP might be your best option, anyway, because you don't necessarily need to re-compress the media files, so you don't lose quality.
