I've loaded my font library of about 3000 fonts into the 'all fonts' folder in font book. Now I only have the first third of the collection available in Photoshop. How can i enable all the fonts or set up a new sellection of fonts for Photoshop and Illustrator?

Howdy! First, if you use FontBook, it's really not suited for 3000 fonts or more. I'd assume you have font families in there that actually bloats your font number to more like 5000 or 6000 fonts...

I recommend first moving all your non-system fonts out of HD/Library/Fonts and into HD/MY FONTS (create this folder yourself).

Then, I recommend a bettter, and free font management program called Linotype Font Explorer: http://www.linotype.com/fontexplorerx. It has a Tools/Clean System Fonts feature that will move all non-system font files for you. It also has auto activation from apps you choose, photoshop included.

If you're happy with FontBook, and after moving fonts, you need to activate all the fonts you want to use, using fontbook. Having them in fontbook doesn't activate them automatically.

Hope this helps; let me know.

Thanks for getting back.
Yeah I realised I'd made a mistake almost as I did it. It causing a lot of problenms with 'word' etc saying fonts are corrupted. I really need to unload the fonts and start again form sratch. Can I do a fotbook only reinstall or would a complete reinstall sort it out?

No reinstall required. Just move the fonts as I described. Let me know what happens.

There's only 113 fonts in HD/Library/fonts?? How do I know which are the system fonts?

Open Font Book. It will show which fonts are system and which aren't. (Should be grayed out when you try to deactivate.) Make a list of the non-system fonts and move those.

Or download Linotype FontExplorer and it will do it for you. (Per my previous post.)

Ok I've downloaded fontexplorer but haven'i installed. What do I do with font book - will it automatically get tidied up, will it sort out the corruted fonts?

FontBook doesn't have a lot of tools. The easiest thing to do is to run FontExplorer and then go to Tools/Clean System Fonts and run that. Should clear up any system font conflicts.

Load whatever fonts you need to use in FontExplorer and add them as needed.
