I am a police forensic investigator, and upon completing an image of a hard drive from a Mac G4 computer, I replaced the hard drive and when I attempted to power on the computer, the power light on the button would light initially, then fade and go off. The power to the machine does not engage, as if only power is to the on/off switch and no further.
I have checked and made sure that all connections are connected, the hard drive was reinstalled with the same set up as when removed.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

If you know the Mac was working before you pulled the hard drive, try disconnecting the hard drive. Then try the power button. If the hard drive is causing the problem, you should see the video turn on, and something on the screen, even a blinking '?', which will mean the Mac can't locate the startup drive.
If no change, try pressing the PMU reset button, which should be located near the backup battery. You'll have to look around the logic board, as different models will be in various locations, but most are near the drives. You'll find the reset button, just a small black button on a square silver mount. Press that, and try again, watch the fans to check for any movement. If this doesn't change anything, and you don't see the fans move at all, then likely a failed power supply, but could be a bad logic board.
Hope this helps -

Just for my own info, which fixed it? I gave you about 4 different things to try.

Hi Dale;
The reset button was the fix. I, along with several other people here were not aware of that. Again thanks.
