1HFS Volume needs repair. And I notice that its unmounted. And it doesnt load into my desktop anymore.

I still have 2 months worth to back up. What do I do? Erase? Partition? Restore? Is there no hope?

Try using "Target" mode (assuming you have another Macintosh with a Firewire port) to get the files off the damaged hard drive. To use Target mode, start up the second Macintosh normally. When it's fully booted, make sure your laptop is off, then connect it to the second Macintosh with a FW cable. Then boot your laptop with the T key held down. Eventually, you'll see your laptops hard drive appear as a FW drive on the other Macintosh's desktop. You can then copy the files you need to the second Macintosh's hard drive, burn a CD/DVD or however you want to salvage the data. You should then run Disk Utility on your laptop's drive using the second Macintosh's Disk Utility app. If that fails (it probably will), then buy DiskWarrior (from Alsoft) and use it to repair your directory. Diskwarrior comes with it's own bootable CD.

HTH and please let us know what happens. Thanks.
