Knowledge Level: Expert but stumped

Problem: Software
Computer Type: Apple
Model: Powerbook 1400
RAM: 32meg
RAM Enhancer: Ram Doubler 2.x
OS Version: Not Listed

Description:
I am using a powerbook 1400 with a Newertech upgrade board. I am using Apple system 8.5 and even upgraded this to 8.5.1.

All of the software I use is mainstream.

This is my problem. I can only avoid lock ups if I begin with startup and never use sleep mode.

For instance if I use a Zip disk after sleep mode, it will not read. (Never shows up on desktop). If I restart, it reads fine. ( I realize that removing the Zip hwdr during sleep is a no...no.)

I have talked to Apple hot line with not much success. Since I was having other problems at the time, I did not associate these problems with the sleep mode. 98% of my problems, I am convinced are attributed to the sleep mode.

Can You give me some advice on whether my problem is unusual or is it just best to leave "sleep" alone. What do you do when it goes on "auto" and ends up in sleep mode?

Thanks!!!!

Hi Bill
Thank you for using No Wonder!!

Yes,, there is a problem with the
Energy Saver with 8.5 that
8.5.1 didn't fix. And it is recommended
that if you are experiencing problems
to set the sleep option to NEVER.

Sorry I couldn't give you a "fix",
but hopefully Apple will address this
issue with 8.6
Let me know if you
have any other questions!!

;-)
