TICKET ARCHIVE -> Powerbook G4 1.67 15in Internal Mic Malfunction

Hi there,
the internal mic on my PB G4 1.67 15in is continually registering static and not registering voice or anything. This prevents me from using iChat or anything else.
When I use an iSight or DV Camcorder, those mics work fine. I have played around with Sound Prefs - and the mic level says that it is registering a constant level of static.

I have verfied this by using Sound Studio, recording through the internal mic and playing it back.

Can you please help me?

Hi Wilfred

The on board mic is most likely bad. I've seen this a couple of times.

Try resetting the Pram.

Start holding these keys until you hear three chimes;

Command-Option-P-R

If this doesn't correct the problem, you'll need to have it serviced. It would be the DC Board or Logic Board.

Hi Bob,
thanks so much your speedy reply. Well, I gave it a go zapping the PRam, hbgut to no avail. Off to the mac doctor it is.
Would this thing take long to fix do you think? And would you say it is necessary to back up everything off my drive before the machine goes in?

The time to fix wouldn't be long, but that depends on the dealer and if they have the parts in stock.
