Could anyone recomend a Firewire Hub that works for the Powerbook G4 17"? I have bought 2 that don't seem to work that well-if at all. Each Hub had a power supply, but when I use them as ports for a Canon XL2 and a Lacie 320G External drive the powerbook doesn't react well. The Mac freezes or my FCPro HD freezes. When run idividually each piece of gear and the program(FCPro) work fine. I checked and ran tests on my Powerbook and also had it looked over by an Apple tech..Who checked the FCPro settings and pref's and all the gear-Nothing wrong with the Powerbook, Firewire cables, Lacie external Drive or The Canon XL2. The only conclusion...it's the Hubs.

Please help

Hi Tiger

Could be the hubs, not all are equal.

Try a hub from this company, they test everything on Macs;

Thanx Bob, sorry it took me awhile to respond-was on the road. Yeah, I love these guys. Thanx again

tiger k.............

By the way Bob-You wouldn't know how to make a 17" Powerbook act as a second monitor to my Power Mac G4 dual 1.25ghz-would you? Please let me know if you do. If not, thanx for your time previously...................

There's no way to use a PowerBook as a second monitor.

Thanx Bob, I didn't think so, but one never knows?

How about this: I needed to install a larger Main drive in the drive bay of my G4 Dual 1.25ghz(Full SDRam). My applications have filled the 40gigs(36.82 GB-actually) of the 1/2 of the partioned 80 GB drive that came w/ the Power Mac. I have a second internal drive of 160 GB but I didn't forsee to install the OS on that drive so consequently I removed the main drive and placed it in a Macally Firewire/USB2.0 External Enclosure.

I installed a new ATA 7200rpm 160 GB drive and went through the motions of installing the OS systems and upgrading all the way to 10.4.6 back from 10.2 etc.

The serious problem I'm having Bob is that once I've finalized the install of Tiger 10.4.6, which is what is on the original drive-now moved to the external and connected through firewire-I have attempted to use the "Migration Assistant" to transfer everything over from the smaller(now external) drive to the new larger drive(in the main drive slot). My applications seem to all transfer, but don't open without re-registration requests by some of the programs. (The G4 is mainly for music and video with all the appropriate software synths and pluggins).

When I did the transfer from this G4(before this harddrive replacement) to my G5 Dual 2.5 Ghz............there was no problems and all the apps transferred beautifully-including my desktop picture and all the programs work fine.

I've rechecked my Master-Slave pins on my internal Seagates
and everything is fine there. I've checked my external firewire encloser and all it's connections.

My question is, can you suggest a procedure that would work? Should I change the Master/Slave pin on my external Seagate?-Though I wouldn't think that would matter. What should I do?. All the Pref's and Ext don't seem to be transfering either.

Let me know what you think...if anything on this subject.

The Migration Assistant is mainly for new machines.

What you should do is use SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner. With either of these programs, you could clone the entire drive to the new one and it would be bootable.
