Everytime I start to type it delays on typing the letters. It also jumps back 5 or so spaces and then proceeds to highlight the entire word or sentence. Having to use someone else's computer...I'm having a difficult time even typing one word on mine.

Hi and Welcome to MacOSX.com!

You can change the delay of the keys, by going to System Preferences -> Keyboard & Mouse. Then click the Keyboard tab. There you can change these things. Hope this answers your question,

No, it is not just a delay. I tried what you suggested before I came to you for help. It literally stops typing and jumps back five spaces...or it jumps up three lines or one line. Highlighting all of the words in the line and then erasing them when I type in the next letter. Could I possibly have a virus???

I tried to install something..and ever since then it has been doing this.

Also, afterwards I tried to install a virus protection device. But when I go to open it...it says to choose an application to open it with. But there are no applications that seem to work! Please help.

I dont know, what might fix this problem, but I know two things:

1: Macs dont have viruses. That is impossible. So there is no way, this could be because of a virus.

2: You said you tried to install something, and then it started. Did you then install it? Try to de-install it and take it of the system. Maybe that fixes it.

I'm new to owning a mac. I do not even know how to de-install anything. If you could help me there...that would be great. Also. I installed more than one thing. How would I know which to un-install. One being Airport update.

If you could just tell me (like write a list), what things you recently downloaded, that helps me. To de-install, you have to put in the disk that you got with the software. If its is a small application, that you just downloaded of the internet, lets say Firefox, thats easy. Just drag the application into the trash, and empty the trash.

I'm just going to give you a list of what applications I see there right now. I am not sure which ones were just installed.
I found these under recent items.

(it keeps highlighting the entire word or sentence and that little box pops up that says ... undo...cut..copy..paste) is my keyboard just overly sensitive? i noticed it stopped when i raised my right hand off of the entire board)

Omnigraffle was an application too.

And I am really beginning to think it has to do with resting my right hand on the board.

Like I'm hitting page up and page left constantly. Not sure why it is highlighting everything. But it definitely stops when I raise up my hand. Is this a common problem with Powerbooks? Is it fixable?

Oh and a couple more things...it seems the light sensitive option is not working (keyboard is not lighting up when I place both hands over the sides) I'm also having to lift my left hand as well as my right in order to not have any problems while typing.

I really appreciate all your help,

Katie

Katie,

Thanks for the apps you listed, but that only means the apps that you recently used, so it says Software Update there, because you used it, so the list is of no help, but thanks anyway. How old is this PowerBook? If it is under 90 days old, return it and get a new one, free. Cause you have many problems with your laptop. Actually, you shouldnt rest your wrists on the laptop while typing, its bad for the hands - but it shoudnt break, if you do it. lol
So I think you should go to a local Apple Store. Save all your data on a memory stick (if you dont have much stuff on your PB) or else where, so then at the Apple Store, they can take your laptop apart and see whats wrong.

Thanks for using MacOSX.com,

Ferdinand
