I am experiencing considerable static when using the DVD player. This is occuring on all DVDs, both home made and commercial. It didn't used to be this way. All other screens and videos (web) are fine. How can I fix this?

Hi rupleek,

First, check for any DVD Player updates you haven't downloaded. To do this, run the Software Update utility by clicking on the blue apple logo on the top left of the main menu bar.

Make sure all your disks are clean before you insert them in your drive.

After conducting a little bit of research I've found that many users have the same problem as yours. Apparently, it all started back in 10.3.6. Apple Support said they would release updates to try to fix the problem. I don't know if those updates were ever released, or in what bundles.

Since the issue is currently still open, all I can suggest is to download a different player. I suggest using VLC Player, which is free. Quite frankly, it's the best media player around, preconfigured with all the codecs, so no 3rd party shuffling. You can download VLC from www.videolan.org/vlc/.

Let me know if the DVD Player updates, cleaning the disks or VLC take care of the problem.

Sincerely,
Vishad
