Knowledge Level: I'm New!
Problem: Software
Computer Type: Apple
Model: 4400
RAM: Not related
RAM Enhancer: None
OS Version: Not related

Description:
My PPP control panel is configured with an incorrect dialup password. When I go to Administer to change it, I'm faced with password security. I don't have this password as the computer is from a previous owner (long gone).

I've deleted preferences, upgraded the system, reinstalled Open Transport and related internet software and it STILL asks me for that password.

How can I get around this? Thanks much.

Assuming you're using Apple's PPP and not 'FreePPP', go into the preferences folder, in your System folder, and look for a folder named 'Remote Access'. Drag this folder to the desktop and restart. Once you've restarted, put the Remote Access folder in the Trash and empty the trash. Open the PPP control panel and you should find no settings at all.

Note: Make sure you have all of your connection information written down before you do this. (i.e. login name, password, phone number, etc.)
